Hand embroidered APPLIQUE and gudri vintage nomadic traveler's bag SP 42

A beautiful and skillfully applique'd bag. A real story embroidery. Lovely vintage fabrics, various printed and hand woven base fabrics, and expert needlework on the multiple point pattern borders. The base has been carefully needle-crocheted, with pompoms.

Both sides are fully embroidered. And it was much-used, the original mending  stitches are un-touched. I place this bag as 1920's-1950's

This type of applique stitching is a craft of the nomadic desert herding tribes. They move their families and their livestock throughout the year. Layers of differently coloured cotton are trimmed into points and carefully stitched to the base fabric.

All original fine stitched cotton in antique gold ochre, cranberry red, charcoal, ivory, maroon and olive green.
